Tutoring Services

Tutoring is available all school year by appointment. Our tutors will help your students understand class material, prepare for regents, or keep up with
academic goals.

Students
We provide tutoring services for students from kindergarten through 12th grade in any of the core subject areas of english, reading, writing, science, math and social studies.

Tutors
Our tutors are certified NYS teachers, retired teachers, college students and math and science professionals. All tutors are screened and interviewed. They are required to participate in tutor training. Tutors only work in their area of expertise.

Philosophy
We believe the goals of tutoring are:

  • to promote independence in learning
  • to personalize instruction
  • to facilitate the student’s insights into learning and the learning process
  • to promote school success
  • to improve study skills
  • to increase student’s self-confidence

How to Start
If you feel your child needs tutoring, contact the Learning Center Coordinator at 585-494-1621. Then you will meet with the coordinator and tutor. Your child will be assessed. The tutor, student, and parent will set some goals together using the school’s curriculum, NYS standards, and assessment results to plan sessions. Then tutoring begins!

When to End Tutoring
Tutoring concludes when the goals set at the consultation meeting have been reached. There is not a minimum or maximum amount of hours required.
